Mari’s final thesis explored the possibility of opening a faux vintage lingerie boutique in Amsterdam. The background was the increasing interest in burlesque we have seen over the last few years, the lack of a lingerie store catering to vintage enthusiasts, and her personal passion for lingerie, vintage design , burlesque and pin-up art.
The final concept was Pinkie Purdue’s – a small boutique selling faux vintage lingerie, shape wear, hosiery, and handmade corsets with an excellent quality, yet to affordable prices. The main focus would be on a providing a wide range of sizes, a constant supply of new and inspiring products (incl. accessories), and to always have the best price quality ratio. In addition Pinkie Purdue’s would have staff with extensive knowledge on the style and the culture of the 1940’s and 1950’s in order to offer excellent customer service and to be able to hold workshops on hair styling, make-up, or creating different accessories.
The marketing efforts would focus on maximum exposure on a minimal budget using social networks (i.e. Facebook), presence at related events (i.e. Amsterdam Burlesque Carnival), a loyalty programme and targeted advertising in publications like 21st Century Pinups.
