Fashion Transit ‘09

On Thursday 25 June 2009 the AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute has organized the fourth edition of Fashion Transit: Fashion Transit 09.  Again, the event will take place in the World Fashion Centre in Amsterdam and offers a platform for more than 130 graduates from the Branding, Management and Design departments. Besides the graduation celebration there is a public programme with a catwalk show, exhibition and talk show. The annual AMFI magazine & yearbook made by third year Fashion & Branding students, will be launched and displayed during the event.

Exhibition: Product vs. Process

The Fashion Transit exhibition presents the work of the graduates from all three departments: Management, Branding and Design. This year not only the graduates’ final products will be shown, but also the process that led to these results. A sketch, concept or sample can be just as inspiring as a thesis, collection, brand manual or forecasting book. Showing the processes behind the final products gives an interesting insight into the talent of the 2009 graduates.

Catwalk show

The Fashion Transit catwalk shows the collections of more than 30 graduates from the Fashion & Design department. Diversity and personality are the core values underpinning the collections by the Designers. In these uncertain times their signatures have never been more certain. No question of recession, rather reflection and progression. The collections express hope, but also the quest for a new language in form, colour and material. Sometimes balancing between today and tomorrow but always exhibiting craftsmanship and visionary talent.

Talk Show

During the Fashion Transit Talk Show, three selected Branding and Management graduates will enter into conversation with professionals on the topic ‘Happy Crisis’. The topic will be approached from a historical, business and educational point of view. Moderator, Bahram Sadeghi (the Balie), will ask three speakers to share their thoughts: Nanda van den Berg (art history), Henk Bremer (Vlisco company) and Liesbeth in ‘t Hout (AMFI the school).

Magazine & Yearbook

The study programme Fashion Magazines at AMFI provides students with the unique opportunity to conceptualize and create a new visual language for the world of fashion. With the help of coaches and input from industry professionals, the students work for five months to actualize this opportunity and create their own magazine. Mint is the new magazine that focuses on the personal relationship that people have with their clothing and fashion in general. It is a playful exploration that seeks to personify fashion and gives a voice to the clothing to tell the stories that are woven in it.

“Fashion to be felt”

Over the past six years AMFI has published its own magazine, created in conjunction with a yearbook. In the yearbook graduates have the opportunity to showcase their work. Both publications and the Mint product line will be launched during Fashion Transit 09. For more information, go to the website of Mint: http://www.mintmagazine.nl
